We saw people being beaten at rallies - is that controversial?! There are cases where it is visible who is doing the beating, can you tell me at least one case where any police officer has been held accountable? There is no such case! - Public Defender Levan Ioseliani addressed the members of the ruling majority.
Ioseliani also stated in this context that justice cannot be one-sided.
“I met them [the beaten individuals] personally. They also indicated mistreatment during detention, beatings, beatings in cars. Which is true - beatings did not take place in pre-trial detention centers, but violence did take place before that and many of them were in hospitals. The task is that those who violate the law should be punished in accordance with the law, but those who peacefully express their protest should not be subjected to any force.
Justice cannot be one-sided. If someone has committed a crime, there is a law for that, and if a police officer has committed a crime, there is a law for that too, and the approach should be equal. Today, I do not see that there is even a discussion about the issue of responsibility for any of them,” said Levan Ioseliani.
