This is blackmail! - In general, blackmail will remain blackmail, however, these threats are very regrettable and sad, - this is how Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze responded to a journalist's question regarding the statement of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in which he spoke about suspending visa-free travel with Georgia.
According to him, the Georgian people cannot be threatened due to the fact that "some people do not like the choice of the Georgian people."
"Of course, this is very sad and regrettable. Yesterday we heard threats against the Georgian people in the Polish Parliament, which naturally does not reflect positively on the image of the European bureaucracy in Georgia. I hope that in the future the attitude will change. The Georgian people cannot be threatened like this due to the fact that some people do not like the choice of the Georgian people. The Georgian people made their choice. Last year, they supported the development of the country, peace in the country, Georgia's European integration. Whether someone likes this choice or not, everyone should respect it. Threats against the Georgian people are absolutely inappropriate.
I think this is blackmail, hoping that processes may develop in a different direction in the country. However, in reality everyone sees that such blackmail, which has been going on for many years, does not affect the Georgian people. Therefore, I think that in general blackmail will remain blackmail, although these threats are very regrettable and unfortunate," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
For information, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk spoke about illegal migration in the parliament and mentioned Georgia in this context.
In particular, Tusk said that he is ready to use existing methods to change international law in order to minimize the risk of illegal migration.
According to the Polish Prime Minister, he is creating the necessary majority to limit or suspend visa-free travel, including with Georgia.
However, Tusk emphasized that the issue does not concern only Georgia, but also those countries from which migration poses a direct threat to the legal or public order in Poland or Europe.
