Ivanishvili’s Soviet-style Georgian regime is imprisoning Nika Gvaramia in yet another attempt to silence the opposition. It reminds me of Belarus, – writes MEP Michael Gahler on his X page.

Ivanishvili’s Soviet-style Georgian regime is imprisoning Nika Gvaramia in yet another attempt to silence the opposition. It reminds me of Belarus. It’s time for the European Commission to initiate procedures under Articles 421 and 422 of the Association Agreement. The regime is blatantly violating Article 2!” – Gahler writes.

For reference, Article 2 of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, among other things, provides for the parties' respect for “democratic principles, human rights, and fundamental freedoms.”

Article 421 concerns “settlement of disputes” between the parties, while Article 422 addresses “appropriate measures in case of non-fulfillment of obligations.”
