Elene Khoshtaria on local self-government elections: Yesterday we saw surveys confirming that 70% of Tbilisi is against this fake process

The unity of the political spectrum has a challenge - the so-called local self-government elections - I express great hope that together with our partners, the president, all opposition parties, in exactly the same principle as not entering the parliament and not cooperating with the commission, the issue of fake local self-government elections will be closed and we will be united in this fight, - one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Elene Khoshtaria, stated at the briefing.

As Khoshtaria explained, "It is precisely through this non-cooperation, by not giving legitimacy to this regime, that we will achieve both internal and external pressure on the regime, which will ultimately bring them to their knees."

On behalf of the Coalition for Change, including on behalf of our three leaders who are in illegal detention, I would like to address the public. The first thing I want to say is that the Coalition for Change is united and continues to fight the Russian regime. It continues with the same attitude that we saw from our three leaders - Zura Japaridze, Nika Melia and Nika Gvaramia. With their principled decision not to cooperate with the regime at any cost, they are in prison today. We saw that both Zura and Nika Melia once again exposed the system. Zura was arrested without a lawyer, Nika Melia was kidnapped, this was not an arrest. Nika Gvaramia went to prison himself, which will probably go down in history as an incredible fact, but he did not want to bother anyone, including his own team, and he came to prison himself. I want the public to know our attitude towards this. This is part of the fight, because cooperation with the regime strengthens and prolongs this regime. Accordingly, they will continue this principled struggle from the inside, we from the outside.

The principled struggle is based on three things - one is a common national protest, which must be strengthened. All activists must know that we, the coalition, are on their side. All political prisoners must know that we are on their side and will continue to fight for their rights. The second is the unity of the political spectrum, but unity around a strategic task, around non-cooperation with the regime. This unity has a challenge today. These are the local so-called self-government elections. A fabricated fake process conceived by the Russian regime. Therefore, I express great hope that together with our partners, together with the president, together with Lelo, together with all opposition parties, we will close this page and in exactly the same principle as not entering the parliament, not cooperating with the commission, this fake local self-government [elections] issue will be closed and we will be united in this struggle.

It is precisely through this non-cooperation, by not giving legitimacy to this regime, that we will achieve both internal and external pressure on the regime, which will ultimately bring them down.

Yesterday we saw surveys confirming that 70% of Tbilisi is against this fake process. Therefore, I want the public to know that in this struggle, where our leaders have taken principled steps, the Coalition for Change stands very principled, united and committed to the struggle, which is to defeat the Russians in our country,” said Elene Khoshtaria.
