"How can submission be considered resistance?! Every structure, from top to bottom, is submissive to Ivanishvili, and in this reality, participating in local elections today is, first and foremost, a betrayal of oneself and of those who ended up in prison as a result of this struggle," said Giorgi Botkoveli, a leader of "Unity - National Movement," on PalitraNews’ program "Day’s Newsroom." He was responding to a statement by Mamuka Khazaradze, leader of "Lelo/Strong Georgia," who said that "the de-occupation of the country from the Russian regime must start in Tbilisi" and expressed readiness for "all compromises to create a unified platform, if necessary, with a new number, a joint list, and a strong unified candidate."

According to Botkoveli, "We are entirely within a process controlled by one mafioso, one Russian oligarch, and there is no mechanism for a political party to protect the votes given by its constituents."

"[Khazaradze said] we must establish the main front of resistance in Tbilisi, right?! I don’t know, how can submission be resistance?! Virtually every structure that should guarantee the protection of a person’s vote is entirely submissive to Ivanishvili. There is not only no mechanism to protect one’s own vote, but there is also no mechanism for a political party to protect the votes given by its constituents. How can we talk about participating in elections in this process?! It’s very tough when a political party comes out and says, ‘We won’t participate in elections.’ In a normal country, it should be the case that every political party participates, but aren’t we in an abnormal environment today? We are entirely within a process controlled by one mafioso, one Russian oligarch. In this reality, participating in local elections in any way is, first and foremost, a betrayal of oneself and of those who ended up in prison as a result of this struggle," Botkoveli stated.

Furthermore, he commented on the positions of Giorgi Gakharia, leader of "For Georgia," stating that "attempting to participate in the game Ivanishvili offers in the form of local elections does not mean you will escape his punitive process."

According to him, the opposition must be united to defeat the "Russian regime." Botkoveli noted that "today is not the time to count who has how many supporters or who will be first, second, or third."

"Of course, my support goes to all political prisoners, like Irakli Okruashvili, Nika Melia, Zurab Girchi Japaridze, Nika Gvaramia, and everyone who, one might say, is still in line. If anyone thinks that by participating in some game set by Bidzina Ivanishvili they can somehow mitigate their own non-arrest or opposition from Ivanishvili, they need to analyze all this. It’s the same case with Gakharia, for example—the more you submit, the more you try to participate in the game Ivanishvili offers, like local elections, and declare your readiness to participate, it doesn’t mean you’ll escape his punitive process. Therefore, it’s important to continue resistance, in which we must be united. The main thing is that all opposition parties have one primary goal and position. Now, at least. Today is not the time to count who has how many supporters, which opposition party will be first, second, or third. All this will be left behind if we are not united. The main goal of all these processes should be unity to defeat the Russian regime, and then, when democratic elections are held in the country, then every political party can count its votes and seek its supporters," Botkoveli stated.

The opposition politician emphasized that all political parties must come together and focus on preventing the local government elections from taking place.

"The more active the protests are, the more ‘Georgian Dream’s’ position will be damaged daily, and slowly the reins they use to try to imprison and intimidate people will slip away. Therefore, the statements of every politician or partner state should motivate us and further strengthen our position that we must be in resistance, not submission, to Ivanishvili’s regime. The main thing we all need to do together today is unity. All political parties must sit together and work to ensure that the local elections, which Bidzina Ivanishvili’s Russian regime wants to hold to legitimize itself, do not take place. Of course, the main plan is one thing—everyone must be honest with themselves, in which we are all together. Therefore, every politician and every political party must think that, first and foremost, the country needs to be saved, not their own political party," Botkoveli stated.

Additionally, the opposition politician commented on the meeting between Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili and White Tolker, Senior Advisor at the U.S. State Department. Botkoveli noted that Bidzina Ivanishvili is doing everything to completely shift the country’s course in another direction, and our partners see this clearly.

According to his assessment, the "MEGOBARI Act" will be finalized very soon, delivering a final verdict to "Georgian Dream."

Botkoveli stated that "Georgian Dream’s" daily actions bring us closer and closer to Russia, and the combined support from the United States and EU member states "will break what they stand on."

"This won’t be what we sometimes hear from the so-called Prime Minister, that they are preparing for some kind of reset mode or are in that process. Revising the approach directly means that our relations with the United States are deteriorated, stemming from the kind of governance the country has today and the kind of governance process it is in. Essentially, Bidzina Ivanishvili is doing everything to turn the country’s course in a completely different direction, and our partners see this very clearly. This meeting precedes a process that I am confident will conclude very soon—the adoption of the ‘MEGOBARI Act,’ which will deliver a final verdict to ‘Georgian Dream.’ This will be support for our state and the Georgian people when specific individuals are sanctioned. The main thing is that the person for whom money is the most important thing, not the homeland, the country’s future, or the people, will be sanctioned. That is Bidzina Ivanishvili. ‘Georgian Dream’s’ daily actions bring us closer and closer to the state that is our primary enemy and occupier, and this combined support from the U.S. and EU states will break what they stand on," Botkoveli stated.
