"The Georgian people are united in their desire to rid themselves of this regime of traitors, but we cannot achieve this by participating in its special operation [local elections]. We must first shake this regime through our peaceful protests," said Giorgi Baramidze, a leader of "Unity - National Movement," to journalists regarding the local government elections.
Baramidze added, "All this will end with the Georgian people 'sweeping away' Ivanishvili."
"Yes, the Georgian people are united in their desire to rid themselves of this regime of traitors, but we cannot do this by participating in its special operation. We must first shake this regime through our peaceful protests. We can clearly see the initial results of the Georgian people’s peaceful struggle and the pressure from our friends. All those scoundrels and criminals who have been sanctioned [will surely be prosecuted under the relevant law]. Ivanishvili 'swept away' various structures, including that notorious 'Khareba,' because he was forced to. Let no one think he did this with great joy. This is a very serious problem for him and his totalitarian system, because those appointed afterward know that if they carry out criminal orders, even greater pressure will be exerted on them, both from the Georgian people and our friends, and Ivanishvili will also have to 'sweep them away.' This will end with the Georgian people 'sweeping away' Ivanishvili," Baramidze stated.
As Baramidze noted, "What the representatives of this regime want to hold on October 4 is a special operation squared."
"Discussion, even if it’s a heated debate, does not mean confrontation within [the opposition]. This discussion will take place, and I am confident that we will all come to the realization that elections, in general, within the framework of the Constitution, are good, and we demand new elections and want to participate in them. But participating in a special operation conducted by this regime of traitors and criminals is no good. These are two different things. I am certain that everyone will realize that if we all collectively assessed the 2024 elections as a special operation, the situation since then has not improved even slightly but has worsened in every way," Baramidze noted.
According to Baramidze, "We are different parties because we often have different opinions."
"Differences of opinion characterize democracy and people with common sense. Only one opinion might be shared by all parties in North Korea or the Soviet Union. Apparently, Ivanishvili wants to appoint the opposition. His appointed opposition and his gang’s so-called party, these ‘Kots’ [Georgian Dream supporters], have one opinion," Baramidze stated.
