Shalva Papuashvili: At the meeting, we discussed several important issues related to promoting peace and stability in the Caucasus region - We paid particular attention to the growing geopolitical significance of the Middle Corridor

"I am pleased to be on an official visit to our friendly country, Turkey. I express my heartfelt gratitude to my colleague, Mr. Numan Kurtulmuş, for his warm hospitality and productive meeting," said Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, to the media following his meeting with Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

As the Speaker of the Parliament noted, the friendship between Georgia and Turkey is based on strong neighborly ties, which have evolved into a robust and multifaceted strategic partnership.

He stated that in today’s turbulent reality, the relationship built on mutual respect and trust between our countries, which strengthens year by year, is particularly valuable.

"At today’s meeting, we discussed several important issues, including deepening parliamentary ties, as well as cooperation in the economy and education sectors. We emphasized our shared vision for promoting peace and stability in the Caucasus region. Particular attention was given to the growing geopolitical significance of the Middle Corridor. The Middle Corridor is a symbol of our shared future, strengthening economic ties between Europe and Asia, ensuring regional cooperation, energy security, digital connectivity, and sustainable development. We consider Turkey a very important partner in fully realizing the potential of this route.

Additionally, we noted the importance of further developing people-to-people connections, including cultural and educational exchanges.

I reaffirm my full readiness to strengthen inter-parliamentary dialogue, which will positively impact bilateral relations between our countries. Friendship groups operate in both legislative bodies and actively cooperate," said Shalva Papuashvili.

The Speaker of the Parliament also spoke about promoting regional stability.

"I would like to thank Mr. Speaker for his initiative to revive the trilateral format at the level of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The meeting planned for 2023 was postponed due to the earthquake in Turkey. All three parliaments are ready to resume this format, and the first meeting at the level of Speakers of Parliaments will take place in Turkey, for which I would like to thank the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament," said Shalva Papuashvili.

According to him, the visit to Turkey will significantly contribute to further strengthening ties between the parliaments.
