The court has fined Tamar Chergoleishvili 4,000 GEL for allegedly insulting a political official on social media

Tamar Chergoleishvili, one of the leaders of the “Federalists” movement, has been found guilty of an administrative offense by the court for insulting a political officeholder.

Judge Davit Tetraulis ruled that Chergoleishvili be fined 4,000 GEL.

She was accused of insulting Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of “Georgian Dream,” and MP Tea Tsulukiani via social media. Chergoleishvili did not attend the court hearing.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs charged the politicians and activists under Article 173¹⁶ of the Administrative Offenses Code, which refers to insulting a political officeholder. The article stipulates a fine ranging from 1,500 to 4,000 GEL, or up to 45 days of administrative detention as possible penalties.
