Mzia Amaglobeli and her friends deserve help, serious sanctions are needed against the regime - let's not ask them to return to the EU path, they will not return, this regime has the genes of the Kremlin, - MEP Rasa Juknevičienė stated in a speech in the European Parliament, where they are discussing the issue – “Media Freedom in Georgia, particularly the case of Mzia Amaglobeli".
According to the MEP, she does not understand the silence of the European Council, member states and the Office of the High Representative of the European Union. According to her, the Georgian people cannot be abandoned.
“Journalist Mzia Amaglobeli has become a symbol of all Georgians detained by the Bidzina Ivanishvili regime. A week ago, representatives of the brave Georgians who have been fighting for a European Georgia for over 200 days attended a European Parliament committee.
However, yesterday, the regime of the Russian oligarch Ivanishvili launched a full-scale legal attack against them. The situation is getting worse every day. This time, my speech will not be about the regime or the Kremlin’s friends in Tbilisi. We have said everything about this in the resolutions adopted earlier.
We need to talk about us, about the European Union. I do not understand the silence of the European Council, the member states and the Office of the High Representative. Mzia and his friends deserve respect and support.
Serious sanctions are needed against the regime. Everyone who have made their hands dirty are afraid of them [sanctions]. We must put pressure on the regime in every way and no longer ask them to return to the European Union path. They will not return, because this regime has the genes of the Kremlin. They deceived people about the aspirations of the European Union, they deceived us in the European Parliament and the European Union.
Only new elections will help Georgians get back their country. The political will of the European Union is needed. There is almost no independent media left in Georgia. Only propaganda TV channels like “Sputnik”.
By the way, I don’t understand why those who spread poison about the European Union are still active here - in the European Parliament.
Let’s act. We cannot leave the Georgian people alone,” said Juknevičienė.
