"It is clear that there are people who stubbornly fight against Georgian statehood and the current government because they lost in the elections and couldn’t bring their agents to power," said Kakha Kaladze, Chairman of "Georgian Dream" and Mayor of Tbilisi, in response to the debates held in the European Parliament concerning Georgia.
According to Kaladze, the process of European integration is hindered by "statements and actions based solely on lies and blackmail."
"In reality, what is happening: Georgia continues to develop and move forward on the path of European integration, but there are obstructive moments, specifically statements we hear and actions that are based solely on lies and blackmail. However, there are also people who see what we are dealing with—people who speak the truth, about how elections in the country were held in a free environment, where every political party had the opportunity to conduct campaigns and participate. We have freedom of speech and expression. Of course, no one has the right to raise a hand against a police officer, regardless of who they are. Status cannot shield a crime, whether the person is a politician, businessman, or journalist—it makes no difference. We are all equal before the law," Kaladze stated.
For context, the European Parliament is voting on a resolution titled "Media Freedom in Georgia, particularly the case of Mzia Amaghlobeli." According to the resolution, the European Parliament:
Demands the immediate and unconditional release of Mzia Amaghlobeli and the withdrawal of all charges against her. It also condemns her politically motivated detention and criminal prosecution;Strongly condemns the systemic attacks by the "Georgian Dream" regime on democratic institutions, political opposition, independent media, civil society, and judicial independence.
