The campaign against Georgia’s national interests continues—the opposition is discredited in the eyes of the people. This is the fate of agents when they are tasked with directly opposing their own country’s national interests, stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in response to a statement made by Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili at the Parliament’s Temporary Investigative Commission, where she noted that “Tina Bokuchava and others mention that the suspension of visa-free travel is one of the things they expect to be used against Georgia.”

As the Prime Minister pointed out, Maka Bochorishvili’s statement “is not news, as, in its time, the opposition roamed the corridors of European structures and directly opposed the granting of visa liberalization to Georgia.”

“The radical opposition directly lobbied against candidate status and against the opening of negotiations. They obstructed the work of working groups. This campaign against Georgia’s national interests continues. The public made its assessment when it turned out at the polling stations on October 26, 2024, and gave a harsh response to the radical opposition. The people see everything, and this is the main reason why the opposition is discredited in their eyes. Everyone knows that these people work against Georgia’s vital national interests. They did this from 2003 to 2012 when they were in power, and they continue to do so today. This campaign has only one basis: they are agents, serving not their own country but certain foreign entities. This is the fate of agents when they are tasked with directly opposing their own country’s national interests. This is a regrettable reality,” the Prime Minister noted.

For reference, Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili spoke about the issue of visa-free travel at the Parliament’s Temporary Investigative Commission, stating: “Today, the most pressing issue is the topic of visa-free travel, a ‘new instrument’ in relations with the European Union that could be used against Georgia. We see that they have become active; Tina Bokuchava has mentioned it multiple times, and others are mentioning it too, that the suspension of visa-free travel is one of the things they expect to be used against Georgia. This benefit is enjoyed by every citizen of Georgia, regardless of who they support.”

According to her, politicians who “renounced their mandates from the streets” are actively lobbying this issue in Brussels.
