We expect even more severe sanctions from the United States against Bidzina Ivanishvili and other leaders of the Georgian Dream, and not only those in the middle circle, including judges, prosecutors, and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who are directly involved in strengthening the regime, - said Ana Tsitlidze, a member of the National Movement.

She spoke about the planned debates on Georgia at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and noted that international partners will have strict positions.

"If someone is blackmailing this country, it is the Georgian Dream, which is pushing this country towards isolation. At a time when the country has more than 60 political prisoners, when political leaders are being detained every day, in the history of Georgia, since independence, the country has never had so many political prisoners, so many political leaders, politicians, young people are in prison. Today is the birthday of one of the political prisoners, Saba Jikia, who turned 19. The regime locked him up in prison only because he fought and is fighting for a free Georgia. Therefore, if anyone can be responsible for what is happening with regard to our international partners, it is the regime that calls itself the Georgian government.

We greatly appreciate the statements of our international partners, however, concrete steps are also important. For us, concrete steps are expressed in the expansion of sanctions. The circle of sanctions should be expanded, including on many people and their family members who strengthen the regime and enable it to be even more repressive. Therefore, we expect that the countries of the Council of Europe will take these steps against the so-called Georgian government.

American senators, our international partners, including Europeans, are very clearly saying that Georgia has no government, that this is a regime that has killed the prospect of European and democratic development in this country, which is directly proportional to the freedom and independence of Georgia. The recent developments related to the arrest of political leaders, this political persecution will continue even further and will end with the banning of political parties. Obviously, our international partners, and especially the United States, will have a strict position on this, this position will be expressed not only in the fact that the “MEGOBARI Act” will be finally adopted and implemented in an accelerated manner. We also expect even more severe sanctions from the United States on Bidzina Ivanishvili and other leaders of the Georgian Dream, and not only on those middle-ranking representatives, judges, prosecutors, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who are directly involved in strengthening the regime and making this repressive machine work against the citizens of Georgia. Therefore, the more the regime narrows the circle, the more the expectation will be that the response of our international partners will be very severe,” Tsitlidze said.
