Salome Zurabishvili: Very few countries — let alone Georgia — can recall having so many political prisoners. This is a sign that we are stronger. On June 29, I will be on Rustaveli Avenue, and together we will show how strong the resistance is

Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, announced that she will join the protest rally planned for Sunday, June 29.

As she noted, “It is important that everyone comes out to the protest that day – party members, activists, parents, NGOs, and individuals who cannot or do not join the protests every day.”

“This week is likely to be perceived as very difficult for everyone. So many political prisoners in just one week – not only in Georgia, but even very few other countries can recall such a thing. But this is not a reason to stop. On the contrary – what is happening shows that we are stronger. The fact that virtually all leaders of the Platform are in prison shows how much this unity of resistance disturbs them. Therefore, the response to what is happening is to take one more step forward. And one step forward means one step further in unity – standing together.

We have the opportunity to do this on Sunday at 8:00 p.m., when everyone should come out. This is the day when we all need to stand together – party members, activists, parents, NGOs, individuals who cannot or do not protest every day. I will be there, you will be there, we will stand together, and our response will show how strong Georgia’s unity, society, and resistance really are. This is the only dignified answer for a dignified future,” said Zurabishvili.
