"Something very painful has happened to me – my Rustaveli Prize has been taken away," opera singer Paata Burchuladze stated in a video address.
According to Paata Burchuladze, the Rustaveli Prize was seized by Bidzina Ivanishvili, the honorary chairman of "Georgian Dream," because "he wants to appropriate it."
"Throughout my life, I have received many different awards, over 150 in total. These include honorary citizenships from cities around the world, as well as prestigious and invaluable awards from remarkable people. Now, something very painful has happened to me – my Rustaveli Prize has been taken away, or more precisely, Bidzina Ivanishvili has seized the Rustaveli Prize, which I have been receiving since 1991-1992. Bidzina Ivanishvili decided that I should pay him this prize and that he should appropriate it. We’ll see, I believe everything will turn out fine, but I am deeply saddened – Rustaveli is, after all, Rustaveli," Paata Burchuladze stated.
