"I believe we must have a unified position: either we participate in elections together, or we don’t participate at all," said Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of "Lelo – Strong Georgia," during an appearance on PalitraNews’ program "360 Degrees."

According to Elisashvili, now is not the time for confrontation, as unity is crucial at this moment.

"I am ready to stand side by side with anyone for the sake of great unity. I extend a hand of reconciliation to Eka Beselia as well. I’m taking this step, not preaching to anyone, but simply saying that without unity in this fight, they will crush us one by one, tear us apart – and that’s exactly what’s happening. I extend a hand of reconciliation to Gugava, Shalva Natelashvili, Bokeria, and everyone who is politically active. I am ready to set some things aside. I’m taking this step toward each of them. If I had disputes with anyone over crime or corruption, when we eventually create an independent judiciary, we can settle those disputes there. But these grudges, this resentment, this confrontation – we need to set them aside because Saakashvili is losing the country, I am losing the country, Beselia is losing the country, every decent Georgian is losing this country. They are establishing a dictatorship, arresting people over Facebook posts, detaining women and throwing them in prison. Now is not the time to settle scores; unity is extremely important.

I believe we must have a unified position: either we participate in elections together, or we don’t participate at all. However, recently, after my partners, my political friends Mamuka and Badri were detained, I said yesterday, and I’ll repeat now, that until now I thought it was worth entering the fight and not surrendering without a struggle. Then I thought entering a pre-lost game is foolish, especially with people in prison. I was weighing all this, but the detention of Badri and Mamuka was a decisive moment for me... For three days now, I’ve decided that participating in the local elections is the right thing to do," Elisashvili stated.

According to Aleko Elisashvili, the opposition should unite around Salome Zurabishvili, as she "wouldn’t be a bad candidate for mayor."

"Let’s sit down, talk, and unite around Salome Zurabishvili – let’s not be afraid to say it, let’s proclaim it. She wouldn’t be a bad candidate for mayor. I haven’t had communication with Salome Zourabichvili for a long time. I hope the opposition will soon come together and agree on some common position. I’m not afraid to say anything because Georgia is going through a very difficult ordeal," Elisashvili declared.
