Elene Khoshtaria: Georgian Dream kind of voted for the resolution amid confusion, but at the same time it failed to do so - the government's position is that it does not support Syria's recognition of Georgia's territorial integrity

One of the important things that happened at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is that our partners from all over the world are directly calling out that the way out of the current geopolitical crisis in Georgia is new elections and the release of political prisoners - this is a very important precedent, - one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Elene Khoshtaria, stated at the briefing.

According to her, the Georgian Dream did not support the declaration at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, which calls on Syria to revoke its recognition of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.

“We would like to respond to another treacherous act of the Georgian Dream. At the same time, the rather confused, weakened actions of the Georgian Dream on the international stage. They, amidst great confusion, voted for the resolution in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and at the same time failed to vote, they argued, and ultimately, we saw the position of the so-called Georgian government, which does not support Syria’s recognition of Georgia’s territorial integrity.

I would also like to remind the public that the Coalition for Change and the pro-Western opposition were the initiators of Syria (where the regime changed) withdrawing its recognition of Abkhazia. The Georgian Dream not only did not contribute to this, but also launched a campaign, opposing the international opportunity for this to happen in the OSCE today. This is a great lustration of this government. On the one hand, the Russian nature, and on the other hand, confusion, fear, confused action under international pressure.

The second important thing that happened at this assembly is that our partners from all over the world are directly saying that the way out of the current geopolitical crisis in Georgia is new elections and the release of political prisoners. This is a very important precedent.

I am holding this briefing only to make the public understand how much power we and international pressure have, which is pushing this Russian regime, pushing it into a corner. They will have to lustrate and take back their decisions many times and such a public, comical debate. Therefore, it is important that we continue to fight this regime, continue to fight from within, which will lead to great international support,” Khoshtaria said.
