“Of course, it is a serious incident. I wish Tornike Rizhvadze a speedy recovery. An investigation is underway, and all the details of this case will be clarified,” – said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
When asked whether the Ministry of Internal Affairs had planned to arrest Tornike Rizhvadze before the incident, Papuashvili responded: “I don’t know where you’re getting these versions from.”
“An investigation is underway regarding this incident, and all the details will be clarified. You are free to speculate as you wish. The Minister of Internal Affairs was personally present at the scene. The investigation will determine everything. I don’t know any further details.
As for what the opposition will say… well, what they say doesn’t change the fact. A serious incident has taken place,” – Papuashvili stated.
For reference, earlier this morning, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that the former Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Tornike Rizhvadze, was admitted to GeoHospitals in Sagarejo with a gunshot wound to the chest. According to the ministry, he received emergency medical treatment. Doctors stated that his lung is damaged and that his condition is critically stable.
Later, Rizhvadze was transferred from Sagarejo to the First University Clinic in Tbilisi.
According to available information, in connection with Rizhvadze’s case, Aleksi Akhvlediani has been detained as a suspect for the negligent storage of a firearm.
