“We agree with President Salome Zurabishvili that no elections are being held on October 4! This is a battlefield where we have decided to enter the fight alongside the Georgian people,” reads a letter from Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of “Lelo – Strong Georgia,” released from prison and published on his personal social media page.
As Japaridze writes, he and his team remain supporters and advocates of unity.
“Regarding the boycott, this was our position as well, and therefore we fully agree with her that a boycott under authoritarian regimes is doomed to failure and cannot succeed.
My team and I have always been not only supporters but also initiators of unity, and today, we remain advocates of unity.
Here, we once again confirm our support for the protesting public and, as always, are ready to participate in strengthening the protests.
Status Quo:
The European Parliament has repeatedly called on us to unite and seize this opportunity. We agree that the electoral environment has deteriorated, is full of challenges, and the majority of political leaders are in prison. To prevent ‘Georgian Dream’ from maintaining the status quo, an uncompromising struggle is necessary!” the letter from Badri Japaridze states.
