Giorgi Vashadze: The path to victory is simple — no compromise with the “Georgian Dream,” compromise with each other - It’s time to create a common decision-making mechanism that will determine how we continue the struggle

“The European Parliament’s resolution has also confirmed that relentless resistance and unity have no alternative, but it is a regrettable fact that we could not agree on non-participation in the farce called local self-government elections,” reads a letter from Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of “Strategy Aghmashenebeli,” who is currently in prison. The letter was published on his Facebook page.

As Vashadze notes, the path to victory lies through unity, a joint action plan, and mutual respect.

“Friends, the European Parliament’s resolution has also confirmed that relentless resistance and unity have no alternative, but it is a regrettable fact that we could not agree on non-participation in the farce called local self-government elections. Our goal is to change the oppressive regime, not to destroy each other.

Our main fight should be against our common enemy. Society sees this confrontation and loses hope that the opposition truly represents a strong alternative. Let’s not attribute greater importance to the so-called local self-government elections than they actually have.

This is not a battle that will determine the country’s fate. For the Georgian people and our international partners, this is a farce, not elections. The real battle lies ahead—the one that will truly change the power structure.

The path to victory is simple: uncompromising stance against ‘Georgian Dream,’ but compromise with each other.

Without unity, defeating the regime is impossible, and the more divided and fragmented we appear, the more it serves the regime’s interests. Therefore, compromise with each other is crucial.

The reality is this: the ‘Georgian Dream’ regime can no longer restore its legitimacy through the so-called local self-government elections because: 1. The absolute majority of opposition parties do not recognize this process and are not participating; 2. The electoral environment is so degraded that elements of competition, fairness, or trust no longer exist; 3. International observation missions, including those from the OSCE, are completely excluded from the process; 4. Resolutions from the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, and the OSCE unequivocally indicate that the only way out of the crisis in the country is through new parliamentary elections; 5. Georgia has political prisoners, including party leaders; 6. During the last visit to Brussels, where practically all parties were represented, it became clear that the so-called local self-government elections have no substantive significance for international partners.

Therefore, it is time to close this phase, learn from it so that we do not face a similar situation in the future, and create a joint decision-making mechanism to address:

How do we continue the fight given this situation? How do we achieve real unity—not just in words, but in deeds? How do we create a powerful alternative that will make our resistance even more organized and accelerate our victory? This farce called elections does not conclude anything. A great and decisive battle lies ahead of us.

The path to victory lies through unity, a joint action plan, and mutual respect.

The only way out of the crisis is new, fair parliamentary elections!

This country belongs to us, not to Ivanishvili’s oppressive regime!” writes Giorgi Vashadze.
