According to Levan Makharashvili, lawyer for former Co-Investment Fund head Giorgi Bachishvili, they have appealed to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia demanding the initiation of an investigation into the beating of Bachishvili in prison.
The lawyer explained that if an investigation is launched, Giorgi Bachishvili is ready to cooperate fully and provide comprehensive information.
Makharashvili also spoke about his client’s health condition, stating that Bachishvili is using a wheelchair.
“After sustaining injuries, he has difficulty moving independently and therefore uses a wheelchair. He likely has a concussion, as his motor skills are slowed, including during speech. Additionally, he is sensitive to bright light, as he explained himself, and experiences headaches and nausea. All of this developed shortly after he lost consciousness. Multiple injuries are visible on him, particularly bruises. He had his head bandaged with a special medical bandage, but as he explained during an interview, he has stitches in several places. We have already addressed the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia and demanded that the investigation be conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office, since the Special Investigation Service no longer exists—it has been abolished. The complaint by Giorgi names the director of the Penitentiary Department and one of its employees. Therefore, to objectively uncover all the details, we believe a neutral investigative body should conduct this investigation, which in this case is the Prosecutor’s Office. If an investigation is initiated, he is ready to cooperate fully and provide complete and thorough information,” Makharashvili said in an interview with TV Pirveli.
For context, former Co-Investment Fund head Giorgi Bachishvili released a letter from Gldani prison describing the details of the violence against him. According to Bachishvili’s statement, the physical assault occurred on July 11. He also stated that on July 8, he was initially summoned by David Gogoberidze, the head of facility No. 8, who advised him to disclose to Bidzina Ivanishvili all his bank accounts, cryptocurrency transactions, and account details. Then, on the evening of July 11, an unknown person entered his cell and physically assaulted him.
