One of the leaders of the "United National Movement," Khatia Dekanoidze, stated that Georgian citizens may be left without access to vital services.
She made this statement regarding the possible suspension of Georgia’s visa-free travel with the European Union.
Speaking during a live broadcast from Brussels on Palitra News’ program Political Space, she emphasized that Bidzina Ivanishvili’s decision to trade with his power will have serious consequences for the country.
“This is a catastrophic course of events, which means that Bidzina Ivanishvili has made the decision to trade on his own power. Georgian citizens may be left without vital services. I expect the European Union itself will publish the letter. We will be given a specific deadline.
Either ‘Georgian Dream’ fulfills specific demands within that timeframe, or Georgian citizens may suffer irreparable damage. Even if we change the government — which will inevitably happen — it will take a very long time to reverse this point of no return,” Dekanoidze said.
According to her, in order to preserve Georgia’s European future and maintain visa-free travel, it is essential for “Georgian Dream” to leave power.
Dekanoidze emphasized the importance of the July 19 protest and called on citizens to gather on Rustaveli Avenue:
"If we want to preserve visa-free travel and ensure that Georgia remains faithful to its historical path, we need to weaken and completely remove ‘Georgian Dream’ from power. Very important months are ahead of us. On July 19, we expect everyone on Rustaveli. From Ilia Chavchavadze State University, we are all heading to Rustaveli Avenue,” she said.
As a reminder, after the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, spoke about the letter sent to Georgia and stated that Georgia has until the end of August as a “deadline” to implement the recommendations. According to Kallas, these are recommendations included in the visa liberalization suspension mechanism report. If the recommendations are not fulfilled, she said, the EU will take action so that the public sees that “its government is not on the European path and does not take candidate status seriously.”
