When they compare us to Moldova – last year, poverty in Moldova was in a worse state than it was in 2012, even one percent worse than during the time of the “United National Movement,” and then it worsened by another two percent – this was stated by Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of “Georgian Dream” and leader of the parliamentary majority.

According to Mdinaradze, Moldova, which is a member of the CIS, is being praised as a model country, while in Georgia's case, it is being claimed that democracy is under threat.

“In our country, the poverty rate dropped below double digits two or three years ago already, and they still compare us. They say that a country in the CIS is a model. I really didn’t want to talk about this, but it’s like the days when we used to have so-called ‘GISHNIKs’ being paid 2 or 5 lari – the situation is the same now. They say democracy is at its peak, and just like they used to call Saakashvili a ‘beacon,’ the same praise is now given to Moldova. And to us they say, your democracy is in danger – if that’s supposed to be an objective assessment, then fine, maybe they’re right. But when all of this is based on zero substance, and on top of that, they write to you to repeal the ‘Law on Transparency’ and the ‘Law on Family Values’ – what does that mean? Isn’t that outright blackmail?!” – stated Mamuka Mdinaradze on Imedi TV.
