According to the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, instead of referring to the ruling party as the host government, it would be better for the British Ambassador to Georgia to answer the Georgian people’s questions regarding the funding of various organizations.
This is how Shalva Papuashvili responded to a statement issued by the British Embassy in Georgia, which stated that “‘Georgian Dream’ has distanced itself from Euro-Atlantic cooperation, yet the threat from Russia persists, including in cyberspace.”
“Instead of referring to the host government and using such inappropriate rhetoric toward the Georgian people, it would be better if the British Ambassador addressed the legitimate questions of the Georgian people about his own actions: why was there an intention to fund the extremist agenda-driven ‘Euronats’ ‘Tabula’ and ‘Nats’ ‘Gia Japaridze,’ whose declared goal is to disrupt local government elections. In other words, to use his own words, whose aim is to ‘weaken Georgia’s sovereignty, sow discord, and disrupt the daily lives of the Georgian people,’” writes Shalva Papuashvili.
For reference, the British Embassy in Georgia issued a statement today noting that the United Kingdom strongly supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to the statement, “‘Georgian Dream’ has distanced itself from Euro-Atlantic cooperation, yet the threat from Russia persists, including in cyberspace.”
