Shalva Papuashvili on Aleko Elisashvili: “Let’s wait and see who they choose as their candidate, but from the circus we’re witnessing, I think it would be a logical outcome for this candidacy [Aleko Elisashvili] to be put forward”

“Let’s wait and see who they choose as their candidate, but from the circus we’re witnessing, I think it would be a logical outcome for this candidacy [Aleko Elisashvili] to be put forward,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili regarding the potential nomination of Aleko Elisashvili as a candidate for Tbilisi Mayor by “Lelo” and Gakharia’s party.

As Papuashvili noted, surveys, including those conducted by “Gorbis,” confirm that opposition parties lack public support even at the local level.

“This is a logical continuation of the circus that Khazaradze and Gakharia are staging. So, naming this candidate would be a logical extension of the circus. As for their chances, their chances are, of course, below zero. This will become evident once again in these elections.

On one hand, we have a radical opposition wing that distances itself from democracy. In these elections, they will see that the Georgian people do not need a mandate, including at the local level, for those whose sole purpose is to destabilize the country, drag it into war, and cause economic destruction. How could such people be given mandates? This was once again shown by the survey [Gorbis survey]. Let’s wait and see who they choose as their candidate, but from the circus we’re witnessing, I think it would be a logical outcome for this candidacy [Aleko Elisashvili] to be put forward,” Papuashvili stated.

According to Shalva Papuashvili’s assessment, the main result of the “Gorbis” survey is that “Georgian Dream” will convincingly win for the tenth time, and with this, Georgia’s national interests will triumph.

He also stated that the survey results should serve as a lesson for all foreigners who try to speak on behalf of the Georgian people.

“What this survey showed me is the 62% trust of the Georgian people in the Parliament. This should be a lesson for all those foreigners who talk to Georgia, the Georgian people, its government, and the Georgian Parliament, or try to speak on behalf of the Georgian people. The Georgian people responded through these survey results. When some try to play the role of a guardian over the Georgian people, as if the Georgian people cannot express their own opinions, the Georgian people have shown that the 11th Convocation Parliament and the reforms it has implemented are fully supported by the Georgian people and its citizens. Let them take these results and come to terms with them somehow.

It is unfortunate that the radical opposition, including the non-parliamentary opposition, still has a certain number of supporters. Even after it became known what kind of torture system Saakashvili had created, people have continued to vote for his party and the parties under his umbrella for years. This is an unfortunate reality,” Papuashvili stated.

Additionally, Shalva Papuashvili declared: “If the radical opposition had any sense, they would draw the conclusion from this survey that they have a chance to have representatives in the local councils. If they let this chance slip, they will disappear entirely and declare self-liquidation.”
