October 4 is the date of these so-called local elections and it is natural that it is in people's minds, although in general, creating expectations regarding certain dates has never been very successful, - said Gigi Tsereteli, Chairman of European Georgia on PalitraNews.
According to him, there are differences of opinion in the opposition and the government propaganda will use this very actively.
“There are differences of opinion in the opposition, and naturally, the government propaganda will use this very actively, because one of the tools of fighting the opposition is to find the division and capitalize on this. I have not attended any discussions where any revolutionary scenarios or specific dates were discussed. October 4 is the date of these so-called local elections, and naturally, it is in people’s minds. In general, creating expectations regarding certain dates has never been very successful,” Tsereteli said.
According to him, if a politician wants to hold a protest on October 4, there is no problem, because this is a democratic process.
“If we are talking about rapid change and want historical examples - for example, during the “Rose Revolution”, no one had announced a date. Due to the policy of the then government, the process itself matured so that this happened. This was facilitated by the public, opposition parties, and leaders. The society was ready for this. No one had "set" a date. The announcement of the date, October 4, is natural, because October 4 is a certain day, and if a politician wants to have a protest on this day, what's the problem? This is an integral part of democracy. We have heard many empty statements that something is being prepared. I do not exclude that this will also lead to some stories and there will be a plot that someone is trying to overthrow. In my opinion, this was not discussed,” said Gigi Tsereteli.
As for the question regarding the assumption regarding the detention of Levan Khabeishvili, Tsereteli replied that today every leader in the opposition is in danger, because everything can be fabricated and invented.
“Today, the situation in the country is going in such a way that everyone in the opposition should expect anything. Every leader is in danger, because everything can be fabricated, invented - we can see and hear any fable about any violation of the law, crime or offense. Who would have imagined that there would be so many political prisoners in 2025? Therefore, probably something will happen,” Gigi Tsereteli noted.
In addition, Tsereteli spoke about the nomination of Kakha Kaladze as the mayoral candidate by the Georgian Dream, noting that “sometimes a ruler or decision-maker entrusts a responsible task to someone who he may not like or love at all, but rather want him to fail.”
