“I assume they will sentence him to imprisonment for one simple reason—they don’t want him standing by my side. By doing this, they are sending a signal to others: if you stand with Khabeishvili, you will be arrested. But people like Kobakhidze, who are cowardly, don’t stand by my side. By my side are Georgia’s patriots, fighters,” said Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the Political Council of the United National Movement.
According to Levan Khabeishvili, Lasha Tsanava’s detention was an attempt to put pressure on him.
“Lasha is a patriot—a selfless Georgian who loves his family and has stood by my side in every fight without any ulterior motives. He is my friend and brother. That’s exactly why they detained him—they want to pressure me.
Today they detained Lasha, tomorrow they’ll send a ‘titushka’ after me.
I’m sure a lot of interesting things will come up in court. Lasha is a fighter, and he will speak the absolute truth there, which will reveal a lot to the public.
I assume they will sentence him to imprisonment for one simple reason—they don’t want him standing by my side. By doing this, they are sending a signal to others: if you stand with Khabeishvili, you will be arrested.
But, sorry, people like Kobakhidze, who are cowardly, don’t stand by my side. By my side are Georgia’s patriots, fighters. And there will be many of us. Everyone will see that,” Levan Khabeishvili stated.
For reference, the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has charged Lasha Tsanava, a member of the United National Movement, with attempting to fraudulently obtain a large sum of money.
According to the agency, an investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia established that a Georgian citizen promised a foreign citizen a one-year residence permit in Georgia through influential connections, demanding 5,600 US dollars in return.
