Salome Zurabishvili arrived at Batumi City Court to attend the trial of Mzia Amaglobeili

At the Batumi City Court, where the final hearing in the criminal case of Mzia Amaghlobeli, the founder of "Netgazeti", is set to begin, Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zurabishvili, attended.

Speaking to journalists, she stated that Mzia Amaghlobeli is a symbol of Georgia.

“As always, I expect, until the very end, that justice will prevail, although no one has given us any reason to believe this. The main thing is what we all need to understand: if a verdict is delivered today, it will not be a verdict against Mzia, but a verdict against all those who participate in injustice, who have been involved from the very first day, and who will be responsible before the entire country and history for what is decided today.

It is clear that this is a targeted action against the media, but at the same time, it is against the country. What is happening today—Mzia is a symbol of Georgia,” Salome Zurabishvili stated.

Before arriving at the court, the fifth President also posted about Mzia Amaghlobeli’s case on social media.

“Today, we are Mzia! Her freedom is our freedom!” Salome Zurabishvili noted.

Today, the Batumi City Court will hold the final hearing in the criminal case of Mzia Amaghlobeli, the founder of "Batumelebi" and "Netgazeti". During the hearing, the lawyers will deliver their closing statements. It is possible that Judge Nino Sakhelashvili will announce a decision on Mzia Amaghlobeli’s case today.

Meanwhile, supporters of Mzia Amaghlobeli are gathering outside the Batumi City Court and holding a protest rally.

The investigation has charged Mzia Amaghlobeli under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to an attack on a police officer and carries a penalty of 4 to 7 years of imprisonment. Mzia Amaghlobeli was initially detained under administrative procedures during a protest near the Batumi Police Department on January 11 and was released after approximately two hours. However, just minutes after her release, she was detained again near the department. Mzia Amaghlobeli slapped the head of the Batumi Police, Irakli Dgebuadze, which was qualified as an attack on a police officer.
