Lawyer Juba Katamadze: Mzia Amaghlobeli is a political prisoner and captive, which is ensured by all state structures

“Mzia Amaghlobeli is a political prisoner and captive, which is ensured by all state structures,” said Juba Katamadze, the lawyer of Mzia Amaghlobeli, the founder of “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti,” during a court hearing.

According to the lawyer, the political nature of Mzia Amaghlobeli’s case is indicated by statements from the Prime Minister, yet “for some reason, this part [the statements] was not deemed interesting by the court.”

“The Prime Minister, Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, speaks about the motive, but for some reason, this part was not interesting to the court. The court did not dare to question Kobakhidze. This case is political, and to this day, Mzia Amaghlobeli remains in detention,” stated Juba Katamadze.

According to Juba Katamadze, Mzia Amaghlobeli was humiliated after her detention, and handcuffs were applied in a degrading manner.

“Mzia Amaghlobeli was brought into the police station with attempts at physical violence. Ms. Mzia was denied the right to drink water or use the restroom. In this case, only employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been questioned. We sent multiple letters inquiring about what investigative actions have been conducted.

Mzia Amaghlobeli, a person who has been through hell, was put in handcuffs. The application of handcuffs was done with the intent to humiliate her. One of the police officers, with a mocking expression, demanded that the handcuffs be moved behind her back.

During her detention and subsequent transfer to the police station, she did not resist the police officers.

Before the lawyers entered the police station, a representative of the Public Defender entered 15 minutes after Mzia Amaghlobeli’s detention, where there was discussion regarding inhumane treatment by Dgebuadze,” the lawyer stated.
