According to Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, there is no evidence in the case against Mzia Amaghlobeli, and all accusations are based on “myths and conspiracy theories.”
She made this statement after the court hearing of Mzia Amaghlobeli — the founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi — at the Batumi City Court.
Zurabishvili stated that the government is involved in the process and is exerting pressure to frame the case as political, although, in her view, it is not a political case.
“They haven’t punished her yet, and I hope they won’t. What became most clear today is that there is no evidence at all. All accusations and rumors that Mzia was carrying out someone’s instructions have fallen apart — they’re nothing but myths and conspiracy theories. There is nothing in this case except false testimony. The lawyer explained everything in detail. We were there for ten hours, and there is nothing more to say beyond that. It also became clearly evident that the government is involved and is pressuring the process to make this a political case. This is not a political case, and it should end accordingly.
On Monday, we will hear Mzia’s statement. She requested not to speak today due to physical inability. I believe that after all this, either the court will effectively pass judgment on itself, or Mzia will be freed,” said Salome Zurabishvili.
