Irakli Kobakhidze: Over 20% of young people in the EU are in same-sex relationships – European countries fail to protect their populations from bureaucracy and want to impose this on Georgia, risks are serious

"The statistics are alarming: in the European Union, among the younger generation, the number of same-sex couples has already exceeded 20%. This is the result of propaganda. We are protecting Georgian society from this propaganda," stated Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, responding to a post by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on social media. Kristersson’s post suggested that, within the framework of European integration, Ukraine should regulate same-sex partnerships and ensure full legal protection for the LGBT community.

Kobakhidze noted that there is hardly a single country left in the European Union where these policies have not already been implemented, and this is happening due to the persistent demands of European bureaucracy.

"You see the trends across Europe regarding same-sex marriage, gender transition, and adoption by such couples. The situation is catastrophic in every direction. There is almost no EU country left where this hasn’t been implemented. All of this is happening at the insistent demand of European bureaucracy. Certain forces, which we call the ‘global war party’ and which Americans refer to as the ‘deep state,’ want to completely strip Europe of its identity.

The statistics are alarming. Among the younger generation, the number of same-sex couples has already exceeded 20%. This is the result of propaganda. We are protecting Georgian society from this propaganda. What the Swedish Prime Minister said means that European countries are either unable or unwilling to protect their populations from bureaucracy, and they want to impose all of this on Georgia as well. The risks are serious," he stated.

For reference, yesterday, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson published the following post on social media:

"Today in Sägerska, I met Ukrainian LGBTQI veterans. As they risk their lives on the front lines and participate in the resistance in other ways, they are helping to defend Ukraine. However, they are also a living expression of the liberal values for which Ukraine is fighting.

Today, same-sex couples in Ukraine cannot marry or enter registered partnerships. Full legal protection of the rights of all minorities, including the LGBTQI community, is an important part of Ukraine’s path toward the European Union, and we support it. As a strong supporter of Ukraine, Sweden will closely monitor the implementation of this."
