Shalva Papuashvili: Ambassadors, NGOs and politicians are to blame for the fact that a plea bargain was not reached with Mzia Amaglobeli and she has to serve two full years - if they are looking for culprits, these culprits were sitting in the courtroom as ambassadors

If Mzia Amaglobeli and her supporters are looking for the culprits somewhere, these culprits were sitting in the courtroom as ambassadors - it is precisely the ambassadors, as well as NGOs and politicians, who are to blame for the fact that a plea bargain was not reached with Mzia Amaglobeli and that she has to serve the full two years, - this statement was made today by the Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.

According to Papuashvili, the ambassadors who attended Mzia Amaglobeli's trial "urged her not to confess her crime, not to cooperate with the investigation and not to agree to a plea bargain"

Papuashvili also says that the 2-year sentence imposed on Amaglobeli by the court is completely proportional and "talking about the fact that the court imposed a disproportionate sentence is a lie".

“When we saw the statement of 24 embassies on the decision of the Mzia Amaglobeli case, I read the signature of the French ambassador among them. In France, a person was sentenced to 18 months in prison for slapping Macron. Then, since this person cooperated with the court and confessed to the crime, the prison sentence was set at 4 months, and 14 months - as a suspended sentence.

In Georgia, in an exactly similar case, the court sentenced her to 24 months, but Mzia Amaglobeli neither cooperated in Georgia, nor confessed, nor agreed to the proposed plea bargain.

The French ambassador calls this disproportionate.

The ambassadors put Amaglobeli in a dead end so that she would not confess her crime,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
