Irakli Pavlenishvili: As long as elections are canceled in Georgia, it is inadequate to focus on the electoral number

As long as elections in Georgia are canceled, and we have a very clear and firm position on this, until then, focusing on the electoral number is simply inadequate, - this is how Irakli Pavlenishvili, one of the leaders of the United National Movement, assessed the decision made by the CEC, by which the National Movement and the Coalition for Change lost their electoral numbers due to their failure to apply to the CEC about participating in the self-government elections.

Irakli Pavlenishvili is confident that when elections are held democratically in the country, the majority of the population will support the National Movement.

"When democracy returns to Georgia, when the political process returns to this country, the number 5 will definitely return as the number of the National Movement. I believe that the majority of the Georgian population will circle this number in the next elections," Pavlenishvili said.

As he explained, it was clear from the very beginning what decision the Central Election Commission would make.

As he noted, the party will not give up its identity, the number 5, and it does not intend to remove it from its banners.

"With the same logic, Ivanishvili's gang intends to ban the National Movement. Therefore, the fact that Ivanishvili’s illegal, illegitimate gang is doing things arbitrarily and not based on Georgian legislation, does not mean that we are going to give up being the National Movement, the number 5 and our identity,” Pavlenishvili said.

For information, the National Movement and the Coalition for Change lost their electoral numbers due to not applying to the CEC for participation in the self-government elections. According to CEC Chairman Giorgi Kalandarishvili, in total, 17 parties applied to participate in the self-government elections, and 5 electoral subjects that participated in the 2024 parliamentary elections were assigned the numbers they had during the parliamentary elections.
