Tina Bokuchava: I am certain that neither Anatoli Gigauri, nor Mzia Amaghlobeli, nor Nino Datashvili, nor any other political prisoner will serve the political sentence imposed by the system – this violent, unjust system will collapse much sooner

The so-called judge, Jvebe Nachkebia – a servant carrying out a political order – of course, carried out that order and sentenced to two years in prison a person who has committed no crime other than standing on the side of truth, on the side of our country’s European, bright future, – this is how the chairperson of the “United National Movement,” Tina Bokuchava, assessed the court’s decision against UNM member Anatoli Gigauri.

As Bokuchava noted, neither Anatoli Gigauri, nor Mzia Amaghlobeli, nor Nino Datashvili, nor any other political prisoner will have to serve their sentence in full.

“Of course, Ivanishvili’s regime had to be ruthless towards Anatoli Gigauri, who is a member of the United National Movement. The so-called judge, Jvebe Nachkebia, a servant executing a political order, naturally carried out that order and sentenced to two years in prison a person who has committed no crime other than standing on the side of truth, on the side of our country’s European, bright future, and who was tortured by someone named Vakhtang Gabunia, who, while Gigauri’s hands were handcuffed, inflicted physical injuries causing a concussion. In an utterly cynical manner, with the kind of cynicism typical of the regime and seen in many other political cases, this Gabunia was used by the system as a false witness.

All political cases are stitched together with the same white thread, but I am deeply convinced that neither Anatoli Gigauri, nor Mzia Amaghlobeli, nor Nino Datashvili, nor any other political prisoner will serve the political sentence and charge imposed by the system, because this violent, unjust system – built directly on the Russian model and seeking to use a justice system turned into a bastion of injustice to silence and intimidate people – will collapse and fall much sooner. Today, in Anatoli’s statement, we once again heard that he will not be intimidated, and neither will any political prisoner; they will fight until the regime is overthrown,” said Tina Bokuchava.

During the protests, UNM member Anatoli Gigauri was sentenced to two years in prison.

Judge Jvebe Nachkebia reclassified the charge against Anatoli Gigauri under Article 353^1, which concerns assault on a police officer and carries a sentence of four to seven years, and instead found him guilty under Article 353, Part 1 of the Criminal Code, which refers to resistance, threats, or violence against a public order officer or another government representative. The penalty for this offense can be a fine, house arrest for up to two years, or imprisonment for two to six years.
