Parliament will elect the new head of the State Security Service today

The Parliament will elect the head of the State Security Service at its session today, September 3.

The government's decision to nominate Mamuka Mdinaradze for the position of head of the State Security Service has already been submitted to the Parliament. The matter has been referred to the Defense and Security Committee for consideration, which will hold a meeting tomorrow morning before the start of the session.

At the plenary session, the Parliament acknowledged the resignation of Anri Okhanashvili from the position of head of the State Security Service and, accordingly, the early termination of his powers.

Okhanashvili was elected by the Parliament as the head of the State Security Service in April 2025 for a six-year term, but he announced his resignation in August.
