Citizens are holding a march toward Kakha Kaladze’s headquarters: police are mobilized

Citizens who were gathered at the Philharmonic are marching toward Melikishvili Avenue, heading to the election headquarters of Kakha Kaladze, the Tbilisi mayoral candidate of “Georgian Dream.”

The protest participants on Melikishvili Avenue will be joined by those marching from the former Public Broadcaster building.

Citizens are gathering at Kakha Kaladze’s headquarters following physical and verbal confrontations that occurred between “Georgian Dream” supporters and rally participants on the day the headquarters opened.

At this time, police are mobilized at the headquarters and along the entire perimeter of Melikishvili Avenue.

The party “Coalition for Change” is joining those gathered at the Philharmonic. As one of the party’s leaders, Elene Khoshtaria, stated today, the confrontation that took place yesterday on Melikishvili Avenue near Kakha Kaladze’s headquarters was “organized violence by bandits posing as the government.”

As a reminder, yesterday, there was commotion and confrontation on Melikishvili Avenue near Kakha Kaladze’s election headquarters. According to the rally participants, they were physically assaulted by representatives of the youth wing of “Georgian Dream.” During the physical confrontation, more than 10 rally participants were injured, including media representatives.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs, on September 8, launched an investigation under Article 126, Part 1 of the Criminal Code regarding the confrontation that occurred in Tbilisi on Melikishvili Avenue near Kakha Kaladze’s election headquarters, which pertains to group violence. Investigative actions are underway.

In addition to the above, based on statements from representatives of the “Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia” party, an additional investigation was initiated under Article 162, Part 1 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to violence or the threat of violence during pre-election agitation or election campaign events.
