Archil Gorduladze: If anyone has the expectation that while in office, they will try to use people's money to make their pockets fat and build their own happiness, serve their sentence and then this will be the end of it, this will not be possible in the future

If anyone has the expectation that during their term in office, when they are supposed to serve the country and people, they will try to use people's money to fill their pockets and build their own happiness, serve their sentence and then this will be the end of it, this will not be possible in the future, - Archil Gorduladze, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Issues, told journalists while assessing the new legislative initiative.

According to him, the mentioned initiative is another means of prevention.

"According to the current legislation, former officials do not fill out declarations. If anyone has the expectation that during their time in office, when they are supposed to serve the country and people, they will try to use people's money to fill their pockets and build their own happiness, serve their sentence and then this will be the end of it, this will not be possible in the future. When a specific criminal serves his sentence, he will have to fill out official declarations for years, which we all fill out, and present his funds, property, and spent finances for public discussion - this will be monitored by the relevant services. This is another means of prevention. Everyone knows that the fight against corruption will be strictly enforced in practice. Mamuka Mdinaradze gave its name to all this. The declared policy of the Georgian Dream is the fight against corruption. First of all, this is the initiative of the Prime Minister of Georgia, which is fully supported by the Georgian Dream team, including the parliamentary team. If there is any other way to tighten the legislation at the legislative level, we will not back down. In order to be effective against corruption in every way, appropriate legislative amendments will be implemented,” Gorduladze said.

For information, the Georgian Dream is tightening the Law on Combating Corruption. Amendments are planned to be made to the aforementioned law, according to which public officials, political officials, persons employed in state enterprises will be obliged to submit a declaration of their assets to the Anti-Corruption Bureau every year for 30 years if they are convicted of committing official or financial crimes.

The chairman of the Georgian Dream faction and parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia spoke about the legislative initiative at the briefing held in parliament.

According to Kirtskhalia, after the amendments come into force, it will be possible to actively observe and monitor the property status of people convicted of specific official crimes for 30 years, which, according to him, will exclude the legalization of misappropriated property and its use for personal interests even after serving the sentence.
