Shalva Papuashvili: The EU ambassador seems very nervous, it’s surprising - the only thing I would like is for him to speak to journalists in an appropriate tone - I call on him to lower his tone

The EU ambassador seems very nervous, it’s surprising. The only thing I would like is for him to speak to journalists in an appropriate tone - no one dares to speak to Georgian journalists in such a raised tone, despite critical questions, despite everything. The EU ambassador dares to speak to a Georgian journalist in such a tone, this is unacceptable and I call on him to lower his tone! - This is how the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, responded to a question from the Imedi TV company about the fact that they tried to ask questions to the EU Ambassador yesterday, but “he disliked the questions and instead said that he is proud of his cooperation with activists.”

Earlier, Papuashvili spoke about the rally planned for October 4 and noted that if there is even one incident of violence, the European Commission shares responsibility for it, due to the statement of its spokesperson.

Papuashvili also answered a question about the citizens injured on June 20 and stated that questions on this issue should be asked to Giorgi Gakharia.

“Ask Gakharia about this. I want the audience to understand: if there is even one act of violence on October 4, even one stone thrown, even one insult or attack on a police officer, an attack on citizens, various properties on Rustaveli Avenue or on another state building, even one act, after yesterday’s statement, the European Commission will share responsibility for it.

Everyone who expresses solidarity with the perpetrators is an accomplice in the violence. Yesterday, we heard from the European Commission’s spokesperson that she expresses solidarity with the overthrow rally announced by the National Movement for October 4. So if even one act happens, be it one, ten or seven, after yesterday’s statement, the European Commission, and accordingly its representative to the European Union, shares responsibility for all acts. So now, let them take care of themselves, maybe they will come out and distance themselves from this,” Papuashvili said.

As for whether the Georgian Dream is providing the European Commission with contradictory information, Papuashvili said that “if a person does not want to, he will not see even a stone.”

“When they do not want to, when there are other plans and intentions, this is what happens. When, in the background of the European Union flag, we hear a statement that it is in solidarity with the National Movement, on October 4, the day of the elections and during the voting, directly aimed at disrupting the elections and violence, he declares solidarity with this, this is a disaster. Once again, if even one act of violence occurs, the European Commission shares responsibility for this, after yesterday’s statement,” Papuashvili said.
