The court satisfied the request of the Ministry of Finance regarding the recovery of a large amount of GEL 9 million of the state budget, which was embezzled, and ordered former President Mikheil Saakashvili and former head of the Special State Protection Service, Teimuraz Janashia, to pay a total of GEL 9 million to the state budget.
The decision was made by Judge Aleksandre Gzirishvili of the Tbilisi City Court.
For information, both convicts were charged under the second and third parts of Article 182 of the Criminal Code, which implies the unlawful appropriation of a large amount of money by a group using their official position in a preliminary agreement. Mikheil Saakashvili was sentenced to 8 years in prison in the aforementioned case, and Teimuraz Janashia was fined 300,000 GEL, after which the state initiated a civil lawsuit against them in court to recover the embezzled money, which amounts to 9 million GEL.
