Iulian Bulai: The Georgian people are not alone - we will stand here with our Georgian colleagues, until we see that the autocratic regime is retreating and until all political prisoners are not released

The message from Strasbourg is this: the Georgian people are not alone, Iulian Bulai, Chair of the ALDE Group in PACE and Member of the Romanian Parliament, said at the briefing in Strasbourg.

He said they will stand their ground until they see signs of hope from Tbilisi that "the autocratic regime is retreating" and until all political prisoners are not released.

"Both Nikas [Gvaramia and Melia] are imprisoned, Zurab Girchi Japaridze is imprisoned, Elene Khoshtaria is imprisoned, Giorgi Vashadze is imprisoned - so many people are imprisoned, instead of being involved in the local election campaign now. This does not correspond to our ideas about democracy. And this message, this accusation is addressed precisely to the Georgian Dream. I will say on behalf of everyone - the message from Strasbourg is this - the Georgian people are not alone. We are talking about what needs to be done on the ground - it is necessary to refrain from violence, to release all political prisoners who are currently in prison, and to hold fair elections that will give a fair chance of representation to all political parties, both at the parliamentary and local election levels. We will stand here with our Georgian colleagues, until we see signs of hope from Tbilisi that the autocratic regime is retreating, and we will stand here until all political prisoners are not released. We wish success to Georgia, to the Georgian people. We support you, you are not alone," the Romanian parliamentarian said.
