Court sentences Giorgi Bachiashvili to 4.5 years in prison for illegal border crossing

The Tbilisi City Court found Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former director of the Co-Investment Fund, guilty of illegally crossing the border.

By the decision of Judge Jvebe Nachkebia, Giorgi Bachiashvili was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison, which was combined with an 11-year sentence imposed in the case of embezzlement of cryptocurrency of the founder of the Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili.

By the judge's decision, Shota Karumidze, who was accused in the same case and who transported Giorgi Bachiashvili to Armenia, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months.

For information, Giorgi Bachiashvili left the country before he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the embezzlement of cryptocurrency from Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the Georgian Dream.

The prosecutor's office charged Giorgi Bachiashvili with illegal border crossing under Article 344, Part 1 of the Criminal Code.

As for Karumidze, he was charged under Article 25, Part 1 of Article 344 (assistance in illegal crossing of the Georgian state border) of the Criminal Code, which provides for a sentence of 3 to 5 years in prison.
