City Court orders pre-trial detention of Zviad Kuprava

The City Court has applied the measure of pre-trial detention against Zviad Kuprava, a member of the National Movement, for calling for the overthrow of the state government and resisting a government official.

Judge Pikria Sikturashvili pronnounced the decision.

Prosecutor Giorgi Liluashvili filed a motion to apply the measure of pre-trial detention, which the judge granted.

The defense filed a motion to grant bail in the amount of 5 thousand GEL, adding that the charge of resisting a government official is absurd, since at the time of the arrest, the State Security Service representatives were not wearing special uniforms and his client did not know who attacked him. According to his explanation, the episode of resistance is not reflected in the arrest protocol.

The defendant also exercised his right to speak.

"I am happy that I did not bow down to Bidzina Ivanishvili. I believe that he is an enemy of the country and I believe that he should be removed from the government of the country.

What the prosecutor said is a lie. In the morning I took my child to school, then I was going to my work, I parked my car in the mall, where I noticed that people dressed in black had mobilized, which forced me to lock myself in the car, because I felt threatened. If I had known that they were police officers, I would not have felt threatened.

5-6 police officers were filming… Bidzina Ivanishvili is going to keep me in prison for 6 years, may the investigation be kind enough to seize that video and you will see that I did not resist anyone.

"As for the second charge, I admit that I threatened Bidzina Ivanishvili, but I did not threaten the state, because he does not represent the state, but I threatened a private person.

I have one request: put me in Gldani prison, because I want to be close to my family. I hope that my detention will not last long and will end in a few months," Zviad Kuprava addressed the judge.
