The failure to distance oneself from and condemn the attempt to overthrow and violence is easily interpreted as an indirect but clear expression of support for overthrow and violence, stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a briefing at the Government Administration.
According to him, in the days following the events, no organization or state, including the U.S., the EU, or specific EU countries, has issued a statement condemning or distancing themselves from the attempt to overthrow the government elected by the people.
“It has been four days since a violent assault took place on the President’s Palace of Georgia, with the pre-announced goal of overthrowing the government elected by the Georgian people. However, during these days, no organization or state claiming to provide immediate assessments of Georgia’s internal political developments, criticize the country, or issue instructions to it—including the U.S., the EU, and specific EU countries—has issued a statement condemning or distancing themselves from the attempt to overthrow the government elected by the people and the violent assault on the President’s Palace. On the contrary, the EU, ODIHR, and other entities have even dared to make statements in an opposing spirit. Naturally, the failure to distance oneself from and condemn the attempt to overthrow and violence is easily interpreted as an indirect but clear expression of support for overthrow and violence,” the Prime Minister stated.
