The U.S. State Department should kindly prove that it acts not under the influence of the “deep state” but in accordance with the objective interests of the American people, and the simplest proof would be to condemn the attempt to overthrow the government. Tina Bokuchava condemned the attempt to overthrow the government, so what prevents the EU or the State Department from condemning this attempt?! stated Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze.
According to him, if the American side wishes to prove that it is not interested in instigating unrest or provoking a coup in Georgia, it must demonstrate this through concrete actions. Kobakhidze clarified that the first concrete step would be a clear condemnation by the State Department of the attempt to overthrow the Georgian government.
Furthermore, Kobakhidze stated that the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, Tamar Taliashvili, was not summoned to the State Department.
According to him, Taliashvili herself informed the Georgian side that the diplomatic measure of summoning was not used, and she was instead requested to attend a meeting at the State Department.
“You know what summoning an ambassador means?! Summoning an ambassador is a diplomatic measure used to express some form of protest, etc. For example, when the ambassadors of Germany, the UK, or the EU make shameful statements, we summon them because it’s a diplomatic measure. In this case, this diplomatic measure was not used. They requested a meeting with the ambassador, which I confirmed as soon as October 5 came. I confirmed that our ambassador was asked for a meeting at the State Department, where specific issues were discussed, but the diplomatic measure of summoning was not used. We know from our ambassador whether the diplomatic measure of summoning was used or not! Our ambassador states that the diplomatic measure of summoning was not used. She was requested to attend a meeting at the State Department.
My call to the State Department is to clearly condemn the attempt to overthrow the government and thereby effectively prove to the Georgian people that it has no such interests regarding our country. This is our call, and everyone can draw their own conclusions about the rest. If they wish to prove that their interests do not include instigating unrest or provoking a coup in the country, they must prove it with concrete steps. The first concrete step would be a clear condemnation by the State Department of the attempt to overthrow the government. You may recall that there were contradictory statements at the time when President Trump congratulated President Kavelashvili on a holiday (I don’t remember if it was Independence Day or New Year), and the State Department issued a general statement that referred not to the government but to the people. The State Department should kindly prove that it acts not under the influence of the ‘deep state’ but in accordance with the objective interests of the American people, and the simplest proof would be to condemn the attempt to overthrow the government,” Kobakhidze stated.
Additionally, Irakli Kobakhidze noted that “European bureaucracy is in a state of calamity.”
“First of all, we are still waiting for them to perhaps distance themselves from and condemn the coup attempt. In that case, of course, we would have a different view of the events. Do you have any explanation as to why what Tina Bokuchava condemned cannot be condemned by the State Department or the EU? Do you have any explanation for this? In the statement by EU Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, there was no mention at all of the coup attempt, and in the context of the coup attempt, calling on both sides to ‘behave properly’—how normal is that? Isn’t European bureaucracy in a state of calamity?!” Kobakhidze stated.
