“Everyone knew everything. They knew that at four o’clock on the fourth day, they were going to overthrow the government, and that everything was supposed to end on the fourth,” wrote the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, on social media.

According to Papuashvili, everyone was well aware that more than overthrowing the government, they were overthrowing their own country’s future.

The politicians knew, the NGO people knew, the young and the old knew, the educated and the uneducated alike. Every one of those several thousand people who stood in Freedom Square knew why they were there. And they knew that, more than targeting the government, they were undermining the future of their own country.

They went there to overthrow the state, and at four o’clock on the fourth day, that place became the scene of a collective act of treason by several thousand people — they all became collective Murtaz Zodelavas.

Now that it’s all over and done, the Georgian people will not accept anyone’s excuses, their pretense of ignorance — the ‘I didn’t know’ and ‘I didn’t think so.’ This is the same Georgian people who, at four o’clock on the fourth day, defeated the would-be overthrowers of the government at the ballot box,” Papuashvili wrote.
