The grant value is exactly the same for any university, for any specialty, there is no difference, there is 2,250 GEL allocated for each student, which, we believe, needs to be revised, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated during the presentation of the education reform.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the system does not take into account the different needs of different specialties and the funding system is not oriented towards fulfilling state tasks.
"The next challenge is a faulty funding system. Today we have a grant model, the state issues a kind of voucher for each student, and the value of this voucher, the grant, is exactly the same for any university, for any specialty. There is no difference, 2,250 GEL is allocated for each student, which, we think, needs to be revised. This system does not take into account the different needs of different specialties, this is one problem, and the second - the funding system is not oriented towards fulfilling state tasks. When the state finances something, it must have a specific task set. There is no connection between state tasks and the funding system today. This also needs to be corrected," the Prime Minister said.
