Salome Zurabishvili: Germany recalled Ambassador Peter Fischer after months of attacks; this is not Europe turning its back—this is the Georgian government deviating from the will of the people

Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, wrote on the social platform X that Germany recalled Ambassador Peter Fischer after months of attacks.

According to her, this decision by the German government does not mean that Europe has turned its back on Georgia.

"This is not Europe turning its back - this is the Georgian government deviating from the will of the people. Yet, the Georgian people still choose Europe, every day, with courage and hope," Zurabishvili writes.

As a reminder, the German Foreign Ministry issued a statement today noting that Germany’s Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, has been recalled for consultations.
