On October 17, during a search of Irakli Gharibashvili's apartment, 6,500,000 USD were found and seized, Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze announced at a briefing today.

As Gvarakidze noted, during his tenure, Irakli Gharibashvili secretly and covertly actively engaged in various types of business activities and received a particularly large amount of income of illegal origin.

“The investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Department of the State Security Service established that Irakli Gharibashvili, who held the positions of Minister of Defense and Prime Minister of Georgia in 2019-2024, was a person holding a state-political position, and pursuant to the provisions of the Law of Georgia “On Combating Corruption”, he was prohibited from participating in any type of entrepreneurial activity and receiving any other remuneration other than his official salary. Despite the above, during his tenure, Irakli Gharibashvili secretly and covertly actively carried out various types of business activities and received income of illegal origin in particularly large amounts. As an official, he had the obligation to declare both income and expenses incurred.

In order to legalize the above-mentioned illegal income, he indicated false data in his declarations on his financial situation, stating that he allegedly received large amounts of money as gifts from a family member every year. In this way, the origin was artificially created for a particularly large amount - 830,000 GEL received as a result of his illegal participation in private business, which was transferred into legal circulation.

In addition to the above, in order to give legal form to unsubstantiated property, Irakli Gharibashvili purchased two cars worth 463,630 GEL in 2023-2024 and registered them in the name of a person related to him, and also, through a family member, purchased a 100% share of one of the companies that owned real estate for 210,000 GEL.

At the same time, a total of 3,670,172 GEL was invested in an LLC registered in the name of a family member.

At the same time, the main part of the unsubstantiated amount was converted into foreign currency in order to disguise its true nature and source of origin. 6,500,000 USD were discovered and seized on October 17, 2025, as a result of a search of Gharibashvili’s apartment,” said Giorgi Gvarakidze.
