The Parliament has withdrawn amendments initiated last week and submitted for expedited review, which provided for the creation of new positions in newly elected municipal councils

The amendments in question pertain to the "Code of Local Self-Government," which, upon implementation, would have added an additional deputy to the chairperson of the municipal council in self-governing cities, increasing the number of deputies from three to four. Additionally, within the framework of the same draft law, the introduction of the position of deputy chairperson of the municipal council’s committee was planned.

As one of the initiators of the draft law, Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s Regional Policy Committee, told InterpressNews, these amendments would increase the financial burden on municipalities, which was deemed inappropriate at this stage.
