"All the arguments we heard from Papuashvili are incomprehensible to us, especially regarding 'Lelo'—we simply cannot explain why 'Lelo' ended up among these so-called parties to be banned. Of course, we support 'Lelo'," stated Giorgi Sharashidze, MP from the "Gakharia for Georgia" party, speaking to journalists about the constitutional lawsuit.
According to him, "Georgian Dream's" logic is incomprehensible to them.
"I'll be direct: we don't know what 'Dream's' logic could possibly be. Deciphering their logic is practically impossible. All the arguments we heard from Papuashvili are incomprehensible to us. This especially applies to 'Lelo.' We simply cannot explain why 'Lelo' ended up among these so-called parties to be banned. Of course, we support 'Lelo.' As for the 'National Movement' and its branches, you know our position: if a party deserves to be defeated, it should first and foremost be defeated through elections and political means. Banning is in no way considered a constitutional step. But there is another side: this once again resembles a new phase of radicalization and confrontation between 'Dream' and the 'National Movement.' I personally believe that even if the Constitutional Court legally bans the coalition of 'New' and the 'National Movement,' the 'National Movement' as a fear factor will never disappear—and 'Dream' will primarily contribute to that. You know very well that 'Dream' wins every election by quite effectively using the fear factor of the 'National Movement.' How much of this is reality, how much it actually serves the fight against the 'National Movement,' and whether this is just another 'fake' campaign will soon become clear," Giorgi Sharashidze stated.
For reference, "Georgian Dream" is appealing to the Constitutional Court to ban three parties. According to Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, the constitutional lawsuit prepared by the ruling party requests the declaration as unconstitutional and banning of the following parties: "National Movement," "Coalition for Change," and "Strong Georgia - Lelo."
Regarding the "Gakharia for Georgia" party, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili explains that the main legal line would have been election sabotage, but the "Gakharia for Georgia" party retained its mandates and began parliamentary activities today.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili also stated that the "Gakharia for Georgia" party has "legally maneuvered itself."
