Gia Volski: Thank god, the entire Government is not corrupt - Thank god there is the resource to spare no one - God forbid anyone commits such a violation again - There will be no mercy if the red line is crossed

It is incorrect to claim that people at the head of the government created a corrupt system from the very beginning - there is no systematicity here, - Parliament's First Vice-Speaker Gia Volski told journalists, responding to the search conducted at the home of former Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze and the arrest of his deputy.

According to Volski, no one will have any mercy, no matter how invaluable good they have done for the country, if they cross the red line.

"Thank God, the entire government is not corrupt, it cannot be, and thank God there is the resource to spare no one, including former government representatives. God forbid anyone commits such a violation again, but for now, we must wait for the investigation to make precise conclusions, present the totality of evidence in court; after that, we can discuss specific issues. Measures have already been taken regarding what has been reviewed. It has been proven that certain amounts were illegally appropriated; inappropriate behavior for the position has been proven, and this will happen in any case, not only in Georgia but in any country where the state cares to prevent corruption from spreading its wings.

There will be no mercy for anyone, no matter how invaluable good they have done for the country, if they cross the red line that has been drawn. In this regard, we clearly heard what Bidzina Ivanishvili said. Apparently, this stage of his return to politics was conditioned by the fact that such signs were noticed. Unfortunately, some signs were not only noticed but also confirmed. What will happen in the end, what conclusions the investigation will draw - we will all follow this together.

It is incorrect to claim that people at the head of the government created a corrupt system from the very beginning. On the contrary, if the country survived, it survived precisely because a correct management system was formed, whether in terms of security or fighting corruption. We achieved results - our assessment at the international level is the highest, including in matters of fighting corruption, but this does not mean that at a certain stage someone did not commit [a violation]. This is not only a characteristic of Georgia. Unfortunately, this happens in democratic societies, but an adequate response is needed. So there is no place for systematicity here," Volski stated.

For reference, on the fact of abuse of official powers by a state political official, the Ministry of Finance and the State Security Service detained the former Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Koba Gabunia. As part of the investigation, the home of the former Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, was also searched. According to the investigation, the case concerns the rehabilitation of 30 kindergartens.
